If you’ve read any of Adele’s novellas yet you may have noticed that they are linked by one thing—the setting. We created the fictional beach town of Scenic, Massachusetts, to tell our stories. Scenic is somewhere on the state’s South Shore, a quick ride up to Boston or down to the Cape, a town small enough for us to indulge ourselves in the Gilmore Girls type of cozy vibe we both enjoy.
But Stars Hallow wasn’t our only inspiration. The imaginary town of Scenic is based on the very real beach town of Falmouth, MA, on Cape Cod. If you’ve never been there, consider this a sign from the universe to book some time off and check it out!
There’s all kinds of little shops and restaurants on Main Street (the French patisserie is a personal fave), a library that holds a huge book sale every Fourth of July weekend on the town green, and a carousel that lights up at night. Very much a place you may encounter Lorelei Gilmore and her IV of coffee, or Rory reading a book by the gazebo.
The beach is a quick walk from downtown, a place where I’ve spent many hours staring out at the sea and daydreaming.
There’s also a very cute bookstore in the heart of Main Street called 8 Cousins. Years ago I saw the YA author Sarah Dessen give a talk and book signing there. It was back before I’d ever published anything, and it was inspiring to hear an author I admired talk about books and writing. (Her book This Lullaby is still one of my favorites to this day; I’ve spent countless hours trying to capture the easy chemistry of Remy and Dexter for the characters in my stories.)
Spreading a little joy is a part of Adele’s mission. So if you’re like us—afraid to read the news to see what fresh hell the day has brought—we invite you to skip the doom scrolling and settle in with one of our stories. Because you know there’s gonna be a happy ending.
And if you enjoy our books, please take a moment to leave a rating or review on Amazon. It really helps us out!
